Life’s Perspective (Put the apostrophe in your header graphic already!) has an interesting post showing the founders of prominent internet websites like Digg, eBay, Flickr, and Wikipedia and their ages when they started those sites. Many of them started young, but all of them had one thing in common: a unique concept that was able to leverage the power of the Internet. (1) [link]

WikiMapia: A mashup of Google Maps and a wiki that let’s you plot anything around the globe. Great use of technology! However, someone already labeled all the Walmart stores in New York… (0) [link]

Fuzzy Zoeller sues to identify author of Wikipedia post: “Pro golfer Fuzzy Zoeller is suing to track down the author who posted what he describes as a defamatory paragraph about him on the Internet reference site Wikipedia… The suit alleges someone used a computer at Josef Silny & Associates, a Miami education consulting firm, to add the information to Zoeller’s Wikipedia profile.” Interestingly, the law doesn’t allow Zoeller to sue Wikipedia itself. Impeach07 campaign launches to organize impeachment movement

Dozens of activist groups together launched the Impeach07 Campaign to present a united front in seeking the immediate impeachment of President Bush and VP Cheney:

A growing network of organizations and individuals has launched a new campaign to pursue the immediate impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney through widespread public protest, creative dissent, media activism, education, and coordinated lobbying. Members of the Impeach07 campaign believe that Bush and Cheney have committed high crimes and misdemeanors, including - among many others - misleading the nation into an aggressive war, spying in open violation of the law, and sanctioning the use of torture. The campaign is demanding that Congress Members hold Cheney and Bush accountable through the Constitutional remedy of impeachment. Impeach07 exists to organize people throughout the U.S. to demand that Congress impeach.

The affiliated activist groups include:

After Downing Street, Backbone Campaign, Center for Constitutional Rights, Citizens Impeachment Commission, CODE PINK Women for Peace, Constitution Summer, Consumers for Peace, Democrats.com, Democracy Rising, Gold Star Families for Peace, Green Party of the United States, Hip Hop Caucus, Impeach the President, ImpeachBush.org, Military Free Zone, National Lawyers Guild, Patriotic Response to Renegade Government, Progressive Democrats of America, Independent Progressive Politics Network, Velvet Revolution, and World Can’t Wait: Drive Out the Bush Regime.

MetsTube: “We are proud to announce the launch of MetsTube, a compilation of publically [sic] available video footage relating to New York’s most beloved baseball team.” Nice to see someone thinking of a new way to promote the Mets online. I’ll be checking back during the season! Plus, its cool to see a website acting as a filter for YouTube videos. (0) [link]

How many blogs does it take?

Have you had a chance to check out the bLaugh comic strip yet? Its from Chris Pirillo and Brad Fitzpatrick and it pokes fun at the blogosphere.

Today’s comic strip had me laughing (not everyday’s strip does) cause it takes the strip retro old-school:

How Many Licks Does it Take?

As a member of the blogosphere, its perfectly fine to poke fun at the longwindedness of some bloggers, heh.

GetHuman.com database: “The gethuman project is a consumer movement to improve the quality of phone support in the US.” Basically, its a list of what buttons to press to get through to an actual human when you call a company’s support line. A good reference and time-saver. (1) [link]

Huffington Post turns 18 months

Huffington Post turns 18 months: Arianna’s eclectic collection of famous bloggers hits one-and-a-half (and an Alexa rating of 1425). It certainly has gotten people’s attention and is home to a lot of insightful content. But where’s a similar headline-reaching companion site for the everyday bloggers out there?

Contractors in Iraq fire on civilians

A video of security contractors shooting at civilians in Iraq has surfaced online.

‘Trophy’ video exposes private security contractors shooting up Iraqi drivers:

A “trophy” video appearing to show security guards in Baghdad randomly shooting Iraqi civilians has sparked two investigations after it was posted on the internet, the Sunday Telegraph can reveal.

The video has sparked concern that private security companies, which are not subject to any form of regulation either in Britain or in Iraq, could be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Iraqis.

The Security Contractor ‘Trophy’ Video was posted by a blog called Barenuckle Politics.

If it is authentic, it highlights the worst of the hundreds of private contractors currently in Iraq.

If you watch the video, the location definitely seems looks authentic. But there’s no way to verify who was actually in the car shooting — either the video or the gun.
