Heard on Photoshop Disasters“The Daily Mail is essentially the UK equivalent of Fox News and Michelle Malkin. It features numerous pieces complaining about immigration, foreigners, Europe, how everything is hopelessly awful, etc.” Zing! The funniest part is the doctored photo with a mysteriously floating hand in it that the newspaper used. Michelle Malkin, indeed! (0) [link]

Oprah Gets OWN Network Via Discovery Deal: “On cable it will take over the Discovery Health Channel, which is in 70 million homes, in 2009. OWN also will include Oprah.com on the Internet. OWN will be equally co-owned by Discovery and by Ms. Winfrey’s Harpo production company.” First the show, then creating Dr. Phil, now her own network? Can Oprah be stopped on her quest for world domination? (0) [link]

Warner Backs Blu-ray: “Warner Bros. has swung into the Sony Blu-ray camp. The company announced that “in response to consumer demand,” it will release its high-definition home video titles exclusively in the Blu-ray format starting later this year.” This latest development in the DVD format war leaves just NBC Universal, CBS, and Viacom supporting HD-DVD. Homer Simpson takes a photo of himself everyday for 39 years (VIDEO)

In a recent episode of The Simpsons, Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind, Homer took a photo of himself everyday for 39 years in a parody of the YouTube Noah experiment “photo a day for ______” meme:

How funny was that? You have to give proper respect to the makers of The Simpsons to be able to keep up with the latest memes of popular culture and feature them on the almost 20-year-old show.

And speaking of parodies, check out this hilarious one:

55 Million People Receive Facebook Apology: “Saying it went too far in its pursuit of profit, the popular Internet hangout Facebook Inc. is allowing its 55 million users to permanently turn off a new marketing tool that tracks their activities at other Web sites.” Their so-called Beacon tool was even a further invasion of privacy than their friends’ newsfeeds. This is always a danger that exists when you give your personal information to social networking sites. (0) [link]

Spitzer’s Christmas Tax Surprise

November 14, 2007 Internet, Local Events, News Add Comment

Feel free to thank Governor Spitzer when your online Christmas shopping costs more this holiday season:

New Yorkers going Christmas shopping online at Amazon.com will find an 8.375% surprise at the virtual cash register, courtesy of Governor Spitzer, who is moving aggressively to collect Internet sales taxes that have gone widely unenforced.

Under a new policy, major electronic retailers, such as Amazon.com, will be required to collect sales tax on all purchases from New York.

The policy, based on a novel legal theory, could hasten the end of the Internet’s era as a duty-free marketplace if other states follow New York’s lead.

I know who I’m crossing off my Christmas list this year, Gov. Spitzer. This additional tax move is ridiculous and will hurt online sales.

You’d think that in a state where taxes on clothing were reduced to spur additional retail sales, that the governor wouldn’t create additional taxes on online sales, but that would be too logical, wouldn’t it?

When sales tax on clothing was higher in New York, New Yorkers went to New Jersey to save money, hurting local businesses. I don’t forsee people shipping their online purchases for pickup in New Jersey, but if they live nearby they might drive through a tunnel or over a bridge to save the additional taxes.

UPDATE: Spitzer Abandons Amazon Tax

Rollin’ With Bob Saget Music Video (VIDEO)

And now, a music video featuring the greatness that is Bob Saget and cameos by John Stamos and George Lucas that answers that eternal question, “Who you rollin’ wit?”:

That has to be the funniest music video of the year! Brought to you by the comedic genius of Jamie Kennedy.

The illest motherf*cker in a cardigan sweater.

Take that, Weird Al Yankovic!

Guilty verdict in music file-sharing case: “A federal jury found a Minnesota woman shared copyrighted music online and levied $222,000 in damages against her. The jury ordered Jammie Thomas, 30, to pay the six record companies that sued her $9,250 for each of 24 songs they focused on in the case.” Sued for sharing songs via Kazaa, this is the first such case to go to trial. A win for the RIAA, but with over 36,000+ similar suits filed over illegal music sharing, expect more trials to come. (0) [link]

Cadbury’s Gorilla Ad (VIDEO)

You know I wouldn’t normally include any songs by Phil Collins on this site, but this a valid exception because it involves a talented gorilla:

How great is that? And of course there are already YouTube remixes:

– KING OF THE JUNGLE –

– 50 CENT –

G-Unit… get it? Gorilla Unit, represent!

What Their Mommas Named Them: Curtis Jackson? Cordazer Calvin Broadus? Clifford Smith? That’s what these rappers’ mommas named them. Check out WhuDat.com for an extensive list of the real names behind 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Method Man, and more. (0) [link]
