Former Pakistan PM Benazir Bhutto killed in rally bombing: NBC News is reporting that Bhutto was killed in a suicide bomb attack. Bhutto recently returned to Pakistan after years in exile in London in an attempt to bring democracy back to the middle eastern country. This is such a terrible turn of events that is sure to destabilize the region even further. (0) [link]

A Break from the “Baseball Shame”

December 22, 2007 News, Baseball, Sports Add Comment

bulldog.jpg With all the talk of steroid use and performance-enhancing drugs in major league baseball lately, I was happy to find a Sports Illustrated story that addressed a different bit of baseball news.

That news being the destruction of a priceless World Series artifact, the ball that recorded the final out in the 2007 Fall Classic:

The World Series ball is gone, and Jonathan Papelbon has an excuse: My dog ate it. Farfetched or not, that’s what the Red Sox closer insists happened to the souvenir from the final out of Boston’s sweep this year.

Really, Papelbon blamed it on his bulldog, Boss.

“He plays with baseballs like they are his toys,” Papelbon told the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American. “He jumped up one day on the counter and snatched it. He likes rawhide. He tore that thing to pieces. Nobody knows that. I’ll keep what’s left of it.”

Now that’s a new one. Although, considering Papelbon is such a colorful character, this couldn’t have happened to anyone else. No one would have believed it if it had.

Homer Simpson takes a photo of himself everyday for 39 years (VIDEO)

In a recent episode of The Simpsons, Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind, Homer took a photo of himself everyday for 39 years in a parody of the YouTube Noah experiment “photo a day for ______” meme:

How funny was that? You have to give proper respect to the makers of The Simpsons to be able to keep up with the latest memes of popular culture and feature them on the almost 20-year-old show.

And speaking of parodies, check out this hilarious one:

Heart Attack Scare for Alex Trebek: “Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek was hospitalized yesterday after a minor heart attack. Trebek, 67, was admitted to the hospital late Monday and was expected to remain there two days, said show spokesman Jeff Ritter.” Or as fans of the show would say, “What is a crappy thing to happen to a most wonderful game show host?” Heh. 55 Million People Receive Facebook Apology: “Saying it went too far in its pursuit of profit, the popular Internet hangout Facebook Inc. is allowing its 55 million users to permanently turn off a new marketing tool that tracks their activities at other Web sites.” Their so-called Beacon tool was even a further invasion of privacy than their friends’ newsfeeds. This is always a danger that exists when you give your personal information to social networking sites. (0) [link]
