Danielle Fishel talks about her relationship with Lance Bass (VIDEO)

Danielle Fishel, aka “Topanga” from Boy Meets World, discussed her relationship with recently-out Lance Bass of N*SYNC fame on the Tyra Banks Show last Tuesday:

The best part is when Topanga reveals she almost lost her virginity to Lance when they were dating.

You can’t make stuff like this up, people. Just don’t tell Cory!

Rollin’ With Bob Saget Music Video (VIDEO)

And now, a music video featuring the greatness that is Bob Saget and cameos by John Stamos and George Lucas that answers that eternal question, “Who you rollin’ wit?”:

That has to be the funniest music video of the year! Brought to you by the comedic genius of Jamie Kennedy.

The illest motherf*cker in a cardigan sweater.

Take that, Weird Al Yankovic!

Dumbledore is gay, ‘Harry Potter’ author reveals: “Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall.” I’ve heard several people randomly discussing this story already today. Is it really that big of a deal for the actual plot of the series, though? (0) [link]

Comedy Central Renews Jon Stewart Through 2010

Jon Stewart Jon Stewart has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at The Daily Show through 2010:

“Jon Stewart is an extraordinary talent, and Comedy Central is extremely fortunate that he will continue to lead ‘The Daily Show’ team through 2010,” said Michele Ganeless, president of Comedy Central.

“I love doing this show. I feel like I work with and for the best in the business,” Mr. Stewart said in a statement. “I look forward to using this extension to having great fun at President Colbert’s expense.”

This contract extension puts to rest rumors that Stewart would take over NBC’s Late Night after Conan O’Brien moves to The Tonight Show in 2009, as I previously wrote.

However, it does ignite rumors of a Late Night with Jon Stewart after 2010, if David Letterman were to retire when his contract expires that year. Stewart is rumored to be after the Late Show seat and this current extension lines him up to take it, if it were offered to him by CBS.

This also means that Late Night will need a host for the 2009-10 season. With Conan taking over the earlier time slot and Stewart spending that year at the Daily Show, one would think the likely successor to O’Brien would be Carson Daly, who signed a two-year extension to host Last Call with Carson Daly through 2009 back in August.

However, NBC Executive VP of Late-Night and Primetime Series Rick Ludwin has commented that former SNL cast member Jimmy Fallon is considered the frontrunner to take over Late Night in 2009, likely relegating Daly to Last Call or nothing after 2009.

Torre Calls Yankees Bonus Offer an Insult: “Joe Torre said he felt insulted that the team tried to reduce his pay and add incentives to his contract. “I expressed my dissatisfaction with the length of the contract… I explained that and the fact that the incentives, which to me I took as, you know, an insult — that we basically get to postseason and then all of a sudden we’re satisfied with where we’ve gotten to.”" Right on, Joe, right on! Joe Torre rejects Yankees contract offer

Yankees manager Joe Torre rejected a $5 million one-year extension from the team Thursday:

In a surprising turn of events, club president Randy Levine announced during a conference call with reporters originating from Tampa, Fla., that Torre declined a contract that would have paid him a base salary of $5 million, with $1 million bonuses for each level of the postseason the Yankees reached next season.

Joe Torre Torre was exactly right for turning down such a patronizing offer from George Steinbrenner and the Yankees. By accepting the offer, which would have been a pay cut for Torre, the manager would have essentially been put on probation by the team, only making his full salary if he guided the team to a World Series win.

Yankees fans should be ashamed at the way the Yankees administration is treating one of the best managers in baseball history, who helped bring the team to 4 World Series championships and 6 pennants in 12 years.

Steinbrenner was patronizing Torre, treating him like a new manager who needed monetary incentives to progress to the World Series. I’d like to see Steinbrenner or anyone else involved in this contract offer to name any other major league manager who did better with a team over a 12 year span as manager. There isn’t one.

I actually got a chance to meet Joe Torre in person, as he received an honorary degree at my college graduation. From what he spoke about that day and from all we know about him and what he has done for medical research, the community, and charity, its obvious that he doesn’t only excel at leading a baseball team. He’s also an all-around great person. Torre is a wonderful asset to have not just for a baseball team, but for a community.

And what the Yankees just offered him, after 12 years of faithful service, amounts to a slap in the face. A one year contract? But, in typical Torre fashion, he simply turned down the offer and left quietly, not making this whole issue into what surely could have become a media circus, complete with raking Steinbrenner over the coals for his questionable decisions over the years.

Joe Torre wouldn’t want that to happen because he seemingly holds one quality dear, respect. Too bad the Yankees and Steinbrenner couldn’t return the favor to Torre.

And now, some Moby…

My friend sent me a link to a Moby music video on YouTube and it brought me back to old school Moby, like when we produced a concert at Irving Plaza with Moby headlining. Take some time to enjoy some Moby music videos…

I knew The Bourne Identity featured Moby’s “Extreme Ways,” but that was the first time I saw that video for it. Ditto for “Honey” and that pesky map floating under doors and stuff.

Typo in Arkansas law allows babies to marry: “The law, which took effect July 31, was intended to establish 18 as the minimum age to marry, while also allowing pregnant minors to marry with parental consent. An extraneous “not” in the bill, however, allows anyone who is not pregnant to marry at any age if the parents allow it.” And you thought people in the South were making such a fuss over allowing gay marriage… (0) [link]

2007 MLB League Championship Series Picks

October 10, 2007 Baseball, Sports Add Comment

00512mlbpicks.jpg As we get ready for the next round of the MLB playoffs, let’s just say that my Division Series picks were half right. I certainly didn’t forsee 3 out of 4 series sweeps! I guess the Cubs are content with going at least 100 years between championships and the Phillies didn’t feel like cashing in on the playoff spot they won from the Mets.

Here are my picks for the 2007 League Championship Series:

AMERICAN LEAGUE

* Red Sox vs. Indians
My pick: Red Sox in 5.
My take: You have to think the Indians will use their 58-year World Series drought as motivation to get them into the World Series, but it will be interesting to see the Red Sox in a non-underdog role in the ALCS. With their incredible offense, home field advantage, and strong relief pitching, it would take a total meltdown for the Red Sox not to make it to the World Series.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

* Rockies vs. Diamondbacks
My pick: Rockies in 4.
My take: The Rockies simply cannot be stopped, having won 17 of their last 18 games. Sure, the Diamondbacks have been strong all year, but when you throw the team’s youth and lack of experience, especially playoff experience, the edge goes to Colorado. Look for them to represent the Wild Card in the World Series.

Guilty verdict in music file-sharing case: “A federal jury found a Minnesota woman shared copyrighted music online and levied $222,000 in damages against her. The jury ordered Jammie Thomas, 30, to pay the six record companies that sued her $9,250 for each of 24 songs they focused on in the case.” Sued for sharing songs via Kazaa, this is the first such case to go to trial. A win for the RIAA, but with over 36,000+ similar suits filed over illegal music sharing, expect more trials to come. (0) [link]
