‘Lonelygirl’ Picks Up Neutrogena Sponsorship: Web video series Lonelygirl15 will add a new character when a scientist from Neutrogena arrives to help fight the evil group “The Order.” No word yet on how a skin care scientist can help fight an evil group, unless “The Order” is a group of skin blemishes… (0) [link]

Hillary Clinton announces campaign song winner with Sopranos parody (VIDEO)

Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign produced a video parody of The Sopranos finale to announce the winning campaign song in their song contest:

That was actually funny and well produced, especially the cameo by Sopranos actor Vince Curatola (Johnny Sacrimoni on the show). A little diversion from the 3029 (and counting…) candidates running for president in 2008.

But, much like the actual Sopranos finale, all of the hype amounted to a major disappointment, as the winner of the Clinton campaign song contest was “You and I” by Celine Dion. Ack!

Veoh Launches Internet DVR: “Called VeohTV, the service can access nearly all Internet video, the company said in a release. The new service lets consumers use a single interface to find and watch video from the Web sites of Fox, CBS and other broadcasters as well as major video sites such as YouTube and MySpace.” This is possibly the next step towards total Internet-television convergence… in what seems to be many, many steps. But it is going in the right direction, at least. (0) [link]

Late Night with Jon Stewart in 2009?

NBC execs recently met with Jon Stewart to let him know they are interested in doing business with him if he “ever becomes available.”

This could mean 2009 will bring us Late Night with Jon Stewart, after Conan O’Brien takes over The Tonight Show from Jay Leno:

NBC Universal biggies Jeff Zucker and Marc Graboff recently had “exploratory” talks over dinner with Jon Stewart, Broadcasting & Cable reports, suggesting that the Daily Show frontman might somehow fit into the Peacock’s late-night plan. Rather than pitch Stewart anything specific, a source tells B&C, Zucker and Graboff “just made their interest known in finding a way to do business together if Jon was ever available.”

There is always the chance that NBC decides to reneg on their contract with Conan to keep Jay Leno in the 11:35pm slot. O’Brien would get millions of dollars and might or might not stay at Late Night. Then Carson Daly would have to worry…

Britain’s Got Talent… but America doesn’t

Amidst the dredges of summer television programming is a mildly amusing reality talent competition called America’s Got Talent. The show features a variety of competitors trying to impress judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, and David Hasselhoff. Oh, and somehow Jerry Springer is the show’s host.

The show, like many others recently, is a British import brought to us by American Idol’s Simon Cowell, who judges the show with Piers and a British actress named Amanda Holden.

Check out this clip from a 6-year-old singer on the British version of the show:

And now here’s a singer from the American version (see if you notice a difference in quality):

Here’s another British contestant, a mobile phone salesman, singing opera:

And back to the American version, with an example of some of the obscure “talent” entries we’ve had to endure so far:

And you thought the ending of the Sopranos finale was bad! Time to turn off my television and go outside…

Court Overturns FCC Ruling on ‘Fleeting Expletives’: “On a 2-to-1 vote, a panel of the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in New York rejected the FCC’s ruling that Fox Television Network’s airing of profanities by Nicole Richie and Cher during the 2002 and 2003 Billboard Music Awards amounted to indecency. The court majority went further, questioning whether the new policy-issued in reaction to Bono’s referring to an award as “fucking brilliant” during NBC’s telecast of the Golden Globe Awards in 2003-was legally sustainable.” (0) [link]
