The CityCynic.com that wasn’t in 2006
While I shared my thoughts, opinions, and goings on by blogging 124 times right here on CityCynic.com in 2006, not everything I wanted to mention made it through to print.
In fact, directly above this editing window I can see proposed titles to several draft entries I had planned to write.
And since I am about to delete them to streamline the efficiency of my blog, I figured I would share them with you first, in their incomplete glory, with just a dash of contextual commentary thrown in for good measure:
- Why do retailers want your phone #? - No really, why do they?
- Walter Cronkite says its time to leave Iraq - A year later and Bush still isn’t listening…
- Remember what happened on 3/11? - Hint: a terrorist train attack.
- The Cellphone Project
- Chris Daughtry dropped by Ryan Seacrest - Seacrest unceremoniously drops Daughtry from American Idol, but Fuel wants him.
- Northport is nice…
- You don’t have to pay to laugh… - You better thank God for that, right India Arie?
- The Mets rock
- 1115.org mention - In March, I had a “different take” on Tom Daschle and “apparently Anthony was right,” so Matt had to issue a (rare) correction. And I got a gold star for my contribution! Love you guys! 1115 is a must read…
- Bryan makes the New York Post - With his Ruined Music Project. He has since been featured on MTV.
- Saturday Night Live budget cuts! - SNL cut Horatio Sanz and others due to financial limitations in August.
- Video sharing sites TOS - Be afraid.
- Liz Clark video premiere - My singer-songwriter friend starred in her first music video, which was later featured on Logo.
- Invasion of the one-word television premieres! - They all got cancelled.
- YouTube is a channel - TV-Internet convergence is gonna come. Sometime.
- Mets lose Game 7 - Argh. How painful.
- 2006 MLB World Series Prediction - After the Mets died in the last out of the last inning, what was the point of watching the World Series?
- CityCynic.com Upgrade - I added cool asides to this blog, but by this time, you’ve already seen them used 87 times…
- MPAA corrupts Boy Scouts - And worse than gay scoutmasters…
- NYU students, alumni sell sex on Craigslist - They have to pay off their massive student loans some way…
So, if you made it this far, congratulations! Maybe it was best I didn’t write actual entries for all of those ideas, although I might bring back the number of retail stores comparison sometime in 2007…
And, as an added bonus, see what I didn’t blog about in 2005 (yes, that was still sitting there, too), after the jump…
- Ratbert’s first bruxing! - Sometime in March my pet rat Ratbert bruxed for the first time, which made me happy.
- Happy St. Patrick’s Day!, - I must have been drunk after the NYC parade and forgot to write this one.
- This post for RENT - In May I saw RENT with my family, my fourth time seeing it on Broadway.
- Wow… just, wow.
- 30 Seconds to Classy - 30 Seconds to Mars lead singer Jared Leto interrupted their performance on Late Night to hold a moment of silence for Hurricane Katrina victims.
- Bill Hemmer moves from CNN to FOX
- RIP Bob “Gilligan” Denver - I was upset he died, but really didn’t know how to work in, “a three-hour tour, a what, a three-hour tour.”
- Reporters step up after Hurricane Katrina - I planned to comment on what CJR noticed here.
- Naked Cowgirl - NYC natives know about local fixture, the Naked Cowboy, but Gawker has proof a Naked Cowgirl was in Times Square as well.
- Mugged by Fresh Direct Delivery Guy - A really unfortunate incident.
- Disc Wars: HD DVD vs. Blu-ray - Both formats soon to go the way of the BetaMax…
- Triumph ate chicken bones - One of our poodles got into the garbage and we had to go to the emergency vet, but luckily everything turned out okay.
- New Shea Stadium - I was really excited to hear plans for a new stadium for the Mets.
- Retail: Number of stores - Good topic, but too much research to do…
- Gay celebrity coming out week continues - WNBA baller Sheryl Swoopes and Star Trek’s George Takei came out. Not to be confused with 2006’s coming out week with Lance Bass and Neil Patrick Harris.
You didn’t actually read this far, did you? Heh. Good show. Good show, indeed.
