NLDS Game 1: Mets beat Dodgers 6-5

October 5, 2006 Local Events, Baseball, Sports

Wow, Mets playoff baseball success is even more exciting than watching their regular season 97 wins!

In the NLDS Game 1 today, I saw a Mets team that was confident, fearless, and full of depth — both offensively and defensively. And that’s with rookie pitcher John Maine on the mound!

The bullpen contributed to Maine’s excellent defensive output and let’s not forget the amazing double play double tag out at home plate in the 2nd inning!

I’ve never seen anything so beautiful in baseball, the way LoDuca tagged out Jeff Kent perfectly and then, just when you thought he wasn’t aware of the second runner, he turns and tags out JD Drew. Simply amazing.

And on the offensive side, there were Mets homeruns all over the place. Carlos Delgado, playing in his first ever playoff game after 1,711 regular series games, tied a Mets postseason record with four hits, including a 470-foot home run and an opposite-field single that drove in the go-ahead run. David Wright went 2-4, with 2 RBIs as well.

I can just feel it this postseason. Everything is coming together. The Mets roster is the best in the league this year and that doesn’t just refer to high caliber offensive players or pitching aces. Its the team unity, the intense focus on making it all the way and playing great baseball.

Yes, Tom Seaver, God is definitely a Mets fan and lives in New York City.

The Team. The Time. The Year. THE METS!
