2006 MLB Division Series Playoff Picks
Just like every year (well, except 1994), its 162 games later and time for the playoffs! Here are my picks for the 2006 Division Series:
AMERICAN LEAGUE

* Yankees vs. Tigers
My pick: Yankees in 5.
My take: The Tigers’ impressive season and team unity will be a challenge for the Yankees, who ended their season on a remarkable uptrend to tie the Mets for the best record in baseball, but the Yankees will prevail with their homefield advantage.

* Athletics vs. Twins
My pick: Twins in 4.
My take: I think I may have underestimated the Twins’ chances this year. While I haven’t heard much about the Athletics this season, it looks like the Twins’ momentum will carry them to the ALCS.
NATIONAL LEAGUE

* Mets vs. Dodgers
My pick: Mets in 4.
My take: Despite the loss of Pedro Martinez to injury, the Mets have the best lineup in baseball and have the bullpen to back it up. If their regular season play is any indication, the Mets (4-3) can handle the Dodgers and make it to the NLCS.

* Cardinals vs. Padres
My pick: Padres in 4.
My take: If the last half of the season is any indication, the Cardinals won’t be a match for the Padres, who are extra-motivated for the chance to win their first World Series. Plus, the Padres’ Mike Piazza is also extra-motivated, as this may be his last postseason play before retiring.
