A look at Late Night Programming
For a reason I can’t currently remember, I thought I’d update everyone on the state of Late Night Programming. And by that, I mean late night comedy talk shows.
Here’s the data on current late night talk shows (sorry Arsenio, Chase, and “Magic” fans):
The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS)
Debuted: August 30, 1993 (13 years)
Airs: weeknights
The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS)
Debuted: January 4, 2005 (1 year, 8 months)
Airs: weeknights
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC)
Debuted: May 25, 1992 (13 years, 3 months)
Airs: weeknights
Late Night with Conan O’Brien (NBC)
Debuted: September 13, 1993 (13 years)
Airs: Tuesday - Friday with Monday repeats 5 nights a week (starting 9/18/06)
Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC)
Debuted: January 26, 2003 (2 years, 8 months)
weeknights
Talk Show with Spike Feresten (FOX)
Debuted: Will debut: September 16, 2006 (-4 days)
Saturdays
And what’s in store for late night in the future? The end of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and the beginning of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien sometime in 2009. An announcement on Conan’s Late Night successor. And the fate of The Late Show past 2009, since Letterman may retire after his contract that year.
There, you’re up to date. Now go back to watching and laughing…
