If Al Roker had a real blog…

Al Roker is America’s favorite weatherman.

That’s just a fact. Denying it is like denying Michael Jordan is a basketball legend.

But what’s the deal with Roker’s website? He tricked us into thinking he was technically-savvy by creating a blog, but has left us hanging since January without any new posts.

Al Roker, why have you forsaken us?!??

Even new The View co-host Rosie O’Donnell has embraced the blogging concept. She still hasn’t learned how to use capital letters or proper grammar, but she understands one of the basic blogging tenets: blog interestingly and blog often.

So what’s Al Roker’s deal? Even after we found out he was friends with Star Jones, we (America) still stuck by him.

How does he expect to retain his title as “America’s Favorite Weatherman” if he won’t even speak to us?

Tennis great Andre Agassi calling it quits

Tennis legend Andre Agassi today announced he’ll be retiring this year after 20 years in professional tennis:

“It’s been a lot of sacrifices the last few months, trying to get myself right to come back here and enjoy this tournament for the last time,” said Agassi, who has played only one match the past three months because of back trouble.

“It’s been a long road this year for me, and for a lot of reasons. It’s great to be here. This Wimbledon will be my last, and the U.S. Open will be my last tournament.”

Agassi is one of America’s greatest (and most popular) pro tennis players and, even if he seemed likely to retire soon, it will be heartbreaking to see him leave the game. Sure, he’s been facing back problems and hasn’t played many matches this year, but he’s Andre Agassi.

And, Brooke Shields aside, we love him for what he’s brought to the game of tennis.

For me, he made tennis actually watchable and helped me learn what a “deuce” was in sports.

His announcement today is sad, much like when Michael Jordan announced his retirement from basketball (also the second time he announced his retirement, too).

Let’s just hope Agassi stays in the tennis world as a commentator or something and doesn’t try minor league baseball.

TV Guide buys Jump the Shark

In a sign that TV Guide itself has “jumped the shark,” Gemstar-TV Guide recently acquired JumpTheShark.com.

Either that, or it could be a bold move to capture more discussion about television shows to add value to the TV Guide brand.

This move seems slightly odd to me, especially considering the poor aesthetics of the JumpTheShark.com website. Maybe this buyout will include a redesign and reworking of the site?

We can only hope… before the website itself jumps the shark.

So much to say, so much to say…

June 21, 2006 Music, Life, General Comments (1)

I have had so much to say here recently, but haven’t actually written any of it for you to read.

I think I’ll get back into the swing of things with more regular posting shortly, so don’t worry your pretty faces.

One upcoming thing I’m excited about (besides my birthday on July 2) is seeing Dave Matthews Band at the Island Getaway at Randall’s Island on August 5-6. Anyone want to come with me on the 6th, drop me a line!

I need to eat more fruit.

Stay tuned…

06/06/06: Happy evil triplet day!

June 6, 2006 Life Add Comment

This post marks 06/06/06, a pretty cool triplet date, if you ask me.

You may recall that I’ve noticed past triplet dates, like 01/01/01, 02/02/02, 03/03/03, 04/04/04, and 05/05/05, but this one has got to be the evilest of them all. Or at least from a marketing point of view. Just ask The Omen.

And, not surprisingly, the date scares numerology freaks and superstitious people:

With 06/06/06 looming (June 6, 2006), authorities in some cities are worrying prophecy theorists or hate groups might read something ominous into the date and use it as an excuse to stir tension. Some expectant mothers are making birthing appointments to ensure they avoid the date, according to the Sunday Times in London.

Other people, in appropriately named locales like Hell, Michigan, are just planning parties in Hell. That sounds like the best option, so party on — and enjoy your 06/06/06.

From what I can tell, we’re only half way through triplet dates for this century, but then again there will only be 6 more for the next hundred years.

I can’t wait until the next triplet date, 07/07/07, which is sure to be super lucky!

Criss Angel Levitation Revealed

Criss Angel Mindfreak reveals in a video how he and other illusionists perform the standing levitation trick.

That Criss Angel guy probably just pissed off a lot of magicians, including breath-holding illusionist David Blane, who loves levitating in his street magic segments.

I never understood why a magician would reveal the secrets to tricks. It ruins the whole suspended disbelief element of magic, I think. But in the world of illusionists like Criss Angel and David Blane, maybe the old magic rules no longer apply.

Anyway, watch the video to see how he floats in mid-air.
