Goodbye Tommy Hilfiger, Hello Nikon!

The Tommy Hilfiger at Jones Beach Theatre is now the Nikon at Jones Beach Theatre.

Its the latest in the naming rights saga for the outdoor Long Island ampitheater:

After four years of sponsorship and naming rights, the clothing manufacturer’s signs began to come down at the seaside, 15,200-seat amphitheater yesterday.

Tommy Hilfiger U.S.A. Inc.’s contract would have allowed the company to renew its sponsorship arrangement for another six years. But the company was purchased and its new owners declined to remain at the park.

The venue is great, no matter what it’s name. I’ve seen Alanis Morisette, The Doors, and Eminem there, among others.

I, for one, welcome the name change. The only thing I got out of the first naming scheme were a few free vials of Tommy cologne at the concerts.

Now maybe I’ll get a free digital camera next time I’m there…
