Blogosphere: Who Owns What
With the recent corporate incursions into the blogosphere, it seems like companies are scanning the web for blogs and blog services that can help them extend their Internet reach.
Here’s the Blogosphere: Who Owns What list as it stands now:
Google bought Blogger (2003)
Tucows bought Blogrolling.com (March 2004)
Six Apart bought LiveJournal (January 2005)
Ask Jeeves bought Bloglines (February 2005)
New York Times Co. bought About.com (March 2005)
Yahoo bought Flickr (May 2005)
News Corp. bought MySpace (July 2005)
AOL bought Weblogs, Inc. (October 2005)
Verisign bought Weblogs.com (October 2005)
Yahoo bought Upcoming.org (October 2005)
Yahoo bought blo.gs (October 2005)
Verisign bought Moreover.com (October 2005)
Presented in rough chronological order for now. I will update the list as it needs updating and welcome any corrections you may have.

ALSO: I’ve received a few emails, so I’ll mention that eBay bought Skype and Yahoo bought Dialpad, but those aren’t exactly blog-based services (yet).

Good list, you should make a little map of ownership, this might be fun to present in a graphical format. Also, its worth mentioning that Six Apart already has an incredible asset in Typepad.com. You could also do a chart w/ companies on one axis and types of assets on the other axis.. ie
Yahoo
AOL
Ask Jeeves
Google
Six Apart
News Corp
vs.
Blogging tool
Web-based Aggregator
Content
etc.
