NBC announces fall television schedule

May 16, 2005 Television

NBC was the first to release their fall TV schedule this week, pinning their hopes of a ratings rebound on Martha Stewart and singer Amy Grant, among others.

NBC has cancelled “Law & Order: Trial By Jury”, “The Contender”, “Committed”, “Medical Investigation”, and “American Dreams.” “Third Watch” will also not be returning (but what a series finale that was!).

“The West Wing” will be back, but on Sundays and “The Office” will return for another season.

“Scrubs” and “Fear Factor” will be back at some point, but didn’t make the fall schedule.

New shows include: “The Apprentice: Martha Stewart” on Wednesdays, “Three Wishes,” a reality show where singer Amy Grant travels around paying people’s medical bills, a comedy called “My Name is Earl” featuring Jason Lee as a downtrodden lottery winner, and three new dramas — Pentagon drama “E-Ring” with Dennis Hopper and Benjamin Bratt, a creepy deep sea life show called “Fathom”, and “Inconceivable”, yet another medical show (this time in a fertility clinic).

I know NBC has enjoyed ratings success with ER, but since “Medical Investigation” didn’t work, I can’t see why they would add a new medical show.

Stay tuned to CityCynic.com for more on this and the other networks’ fall television schedules this week!
