Celebrity relationship update

Spring certainly seems to be the season of love this year, at least in celebrity circles.

I already talked in length about Katie Holmes dating Tom Cruise the other day.

And, odds are that you’ve already seen many photos of them cavorting around in public, making you want to yell out, “Buy some stilts!” to Tom Cruise. (You see, Katie isn’t only 16 years younger, but also several inches taller than Tom.)

You know who else got together recently, catching even the tabloids off guard?

Actress Renee Zellweger, 36, and country singer Kenny Chesney, 37, got married in the Virgin Islands on Monday:

Actress Renee Zellweger, who played the lovelorn Brit in “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” was married Monday to country music star Kenny Chesney in a small ceremony on the Caribbean island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. […]

According to Country Weekly magazine, Chesney long ago named Zellweger as his favorite actress and was inspired to write his 1999 hit “You Had Me From Hello” after seeing her in “Jerry Maguire.”

“You Had Me at Hello,” indeed. Who would think that the romantic-at-the-time, then repeated-cheesily line from Jerry Maguire would bring the two stars together? Tom Cruise strikes again!

Heidi Klum and Seal recently got married in a private ceremony. Photo courtesy AP.

Tropical wedding locales seem to be popular this Spring. Supermodel Heidi Klum, 31, and singer Seal, 42, were married in a secret beach ceremony Tuesday:

The one-time Sports Illustrated cover babe and her one-named beau are expecting their first child this fall. Seal has also played papa to Klum’s 1-year-old daughter, Leni, with Italian race-car tycoon Flavio Briatore.

Klum and Briatore split late last year, and Klum promptly struck up a romance with Seal.

This is officially Klum’s second marriage — she and celebrity hairstylist Ric Pipino were wed for five years before splitting in 2002.

The spring season wouldn’t be complete without a celebrity pregnancy (that isn’t associated with Britney Spears). Alias actress Jennifer Garner is apparently three months pregnant with boyfriend Ben Affleck’s baby:

Now that the pregnancy speculation is officially over, celebrity newshounds are more concerned with the impending wedding ceremony as well as how ABC and other producers will cope with Garner’s condition for the next several months. Garner’s November due date could be a problem for the Alias crew, who will have to decide whether or not to incorporate her growing belly into the show or just cover it up.

This certainly is going to be a problem for the cast and crew of Alias. Garner pulls off being a spy (and even recently going undercover as her own mother on an episode) really well, but who’s going to believe that spies don’t get maternity leave?

Unfortunately, not all celebrity relationships can flourish in Spring. Actress Mena Suvari, 25, filed for divorce from her husband of five years, cinematographer Robert Brinkmann, 43:

Suvari, 25, and Brinkmann, 43, wed in March 2000, shortly after Suvari’s back-to-back breakthrough performances as a choir girl in American Pie and the eye-popping object of Kevin Spacey’s infatuation in American Beauty.

And, yes, for those keeping score at home, Mena Suvari did beat Katie Holmes by being married to someone 18 years older (exceeding the 16-year Holmes-Cruise spread), but was smart enough to realize such a large age difference doesn’t usually work. Are you listening, Katie?

Anyway, yes, in case you were wondering, Britney Spears is still pregnant and still married to Kevin Federline.
