Start having a great life

“Start having a great life / start living with inspiration”

If you like that catchy song from those Kia SUV commercials, then you were probably wondering what you were listening to.

It’s a song called “Great Life” by Goat. Goat is Andy Rosen.

Rosen is the son of former baseball player Al Rosen, who played for the Cleveland Indians and later became manager of the Houston Astros.

Rosen’s song has been played across the country during football, hockey and baseball games.

His mother’s suicide in the 1960’s has been an inspiration to his music. He apparently wrote “Great Life” to help himself out of depression.

You have to admit, the song is perfect for cheering up someone.

“Great Life” was released on an album of the same name by Ruffhouse/Columbia Records back in 1998 and has been also used in movies like “I Know What You Did Last Summer”.

“perfect for cheering someone up” - you have got to be kidding, it is the most boring and depressing jingle

  2. Anthony Says:

No, I was being sincere. Remember, that “jingle” started out as a song.

And I think that hearing “Start having a great life / Start living with inspiration” in a song would cheer up someone feeling depressed.

  3. halfED! Says:

It’s just a fun little song with a good beat to it.Frankly, the remix on the car commercial has a better sound instrument-wise,but it’s certainly refreshing to hear something upbeat for a change.

  4. Po Says:

I LOVE that jingle and would love to be able to hear the whole thing on the Internet. Every time I hear that commercial start up, I stop what I’m doing and listen because it pretty much lays out how to be happy.

  5. mothradeath Says:

the name of the band is goatboy not goat.

  6. Sarah Says:

Um, no. It’s Goat. I have the album in my hand. And the song does cheer me up. I listen to it in the morning on my way home from the beach and it’s a great start for the day.

  7. Jeff Says:

    Mothra,
Goatboy was Chris Kattan’s character on SNL that liked to hump fishtanks….. and he never recorded any music.

  8. Critic Says:

This song (or at least teh version on the kia commercial series) makes me so angry i have to shut off the tv because the song is soo horrible and boring and monotone. I would advise Goat to never pick up a microphone again.

  9. Jazztheglass Says:

Critic is wrong. I have listened to Goat’s new album and the new version of Great Life and they are both excellent. They are much better than Critic’s spelling and grammar, I might add.

  10. Screaming Dasies Says:

I have not been able to find a download for the song.I do like it alot. Were could i find the lyrics?Anyway. The song is great…

  11. dan Says:

i hate this song. i AM, however, a big fan of the Mountain Goats, who are far superior to just about everything.

  12. Chris Says:

I just checked out Goat on myspace www.myspace.com/goatrocks

    good stuff

  13. Dave Says:

I hope the full song is better. The part they snipped to play in the ad makes me cringe. I have even worse things to say about the car brand.

Anyway, thanks for posting who sings it. Some idiot on usenet thought it was by the group who did the Sopranos theme.

  14. goatass Says:

Chris Kattan was never goatboy, you idiots.

    It was Jim Breuer.

BTW, the “Start Having a…” is the worst song I have heard…ever. It might as well be “zoom zoom zoom”. Sheesh, Fish-heads is sooo much better.

  15. goatass Says:

Oh yeah, click (cleek) on my name.

  16. amy Says:

You can find the song on itunes! I heart it lots- Bummer it’s been sold out to a commercial, but hey, that’s how I heard it, so it’s not so bad!

  17. mothradeath Says:

yep, like i said, its goatboy not goat. in fact, here is the list of the songs from the movie i know what you did last summer and as you will see, great life is featured on the soundtrack by the the band GOATBOY. hurts dont it.

  18. Bfunk Says:

Jeff, you’re wrong, Goatboy was Jim Breuer’s character on SNL! I don’t know whether the band’s name is goat or goatboy, but the artist’s name is andy rosen.

  19. Andy, but not Andy Rosen Says:

    Some info on Goat:
It’s Goat. It used to be Goatboy, but Jim Breuer’s (Not Kattan’s) character caused a bit of a problem marketing-wise, so it was changed.
    The song is great.
    The album is also great.
    His new album is fantastic.

I’ve got that Goat CD and he really is good.

i caught him live one night, a while ago on Ludlow Street and he brought the place down. Andy Rosen, “Goat”, is authentic.

I say check him out; he’s really good.

  22. ken underhill Says:
