Make your own bitmap font!

February 18, 2005 Fonts, Design

Aren’t bitmap fonts wonderful? They look great even at 8 pixels and they work well for copyright notices or small phrases like the “Blogging since 2000″ line on the header of this blog.

Sure, one of the most well-known bitmap fonts is Jason Kottke’s Silkscreen. But he used some fancy and expensive design programs worth thousands of dollars, like Photoshop and Fontographer, to make his font from scratch.

BitFontMaker lets you make your own bitmap font, right from your web browser!

If that’s not an option for you, then here’s a cool (and free, for now at least) alternative: FontEditor BitFontMaker. It allows you to make your own bitmap font via your web browser!

You just design each character, choose a name, save, and then create your font. Very cool. It’s the bitmap font version of Fontifier, before they went and sold out…
