Speegle: The talking search engine

January 6, 2005 Technology, Internet

What searches like Google, formats it’s results like Google, and has a Google-sounding name? It’s Speegle, which, besides begging for a lawsuit from the big G, speaks it’s search results.

If Google isn’t already planning to sue for their blatant rip-off of the Google font in their logo, then they should plan on acquiring the company because hearing your search results is really cool! What Speegle has in place at the moment is only a beta test version offering one female voice and two male voices to chose to read your results. Other parts of their website demonstrate computer voices with Australian, American, and British accents.

Apparently, Speegle also enables you to read a whole website, which would be a really cool feature to add to a website. That feature was under heavy load when I tried to test it, though.

Speegle is CEC Systems of Edinburgh, UK.
